Mt. Burke - July 26, 2012

We had a great day hiking Mt. Burke in the Highwood area of Kananaskis.  It is a long drive out there, but worth it.

 These clouds didn't let up until we were back at the bottom...

 Thunder and rain beginning to fall.  We headed back to the trees to wait it out

 Eating lunch in the rain is a little tricky--my sandwich was soggy

 When the rain stopped, we headed back on the trail to try again for the lookout.

 Joe may be soggy, but still happy to  be hiking!

 The lookout--unfortunately this is as close as we got, because the clouds started rolling in from all directions and the thunder was too close for comfort.  As we didn't want to be hit by lightning, we headed back.  We will hike this again on a sunny day next year!

 Yes, the sun was shining at the bottom!

Missed this one too!  Looks like the view was fantastic!

I hear they even did a bit of bush-whacking!

First hike for 2012.  This was nice and easy, with some fun exploring the canyon carved by the creek.
