Ha Ling Peak - July 10, 2014

This is a REAL climb!  But we made it!  We climbed incessantly for what seemed like hours, but it was just about an hour and a half to the top.  Incredibly, there were lots of people on the hike, some in questionable footwear for climbing, but they were all making it.

We had a beautiful day, and were grateful that the temperatures weren't in the 30's.

Up and up and up some more...

Shauna is still smiling and looking good!

The view made it all worthwhile.

Barrier Lake Lookout/Jewell Pass - July 3, 2014

Our first hike this year was a favourite from past years.  We had great weather for hiking, although the humidity made us all hot and sweaty as we hiked up Jewell Pass in the trees with  little breeze.

One of the reasons for doing this hike again (other than that it is a great hike) was to see the trail changes that have been made as a result of last year's flood.  Jewell Pass was washed out for part of the way, so they have changed the route.  Now we no longer have to worry about missing Jewell Falls, because the path passes right by them now.

The final climb up the Prairie View Trail is a killer.  But the incredible view always makes the climb seem worthwhile.

After resting and eating our lunches, we made one more climb up the the lookout.  The 15 minute steep climb yields a wonderful 360 degree view.

Foran Grade Trail - March 10, 2014

After being cooped up all winter, it was great to get out for a winter hike!  We were planning on snowshoeing, but there wasn't enough snow for that, so we used icers on our boots and set out.  This is an easy hike.  It was 10 km round trip.  This hike was one of the first ones we hiked bay back when our hiking group was just beginning.  It was interesting to see it in a different season.  It is so very quiet hiking in the winter/early spring.  We saw a few squirrels, but that is all.

If you look carefully, you can see the Calgary skyline way off in the distance.
